About the Founder

Dr. Lake has a PhD in Educational Administration. He has a personal interest in emotion and crisis management and created a Model Of Effective Crisis Management for his dissertation. His Master’s degree is in Educational Psychology with a primary focus on adult counselling. Steven has been in private practice for 20 years and has worked at the Regional Psychiatric Centre with Corrections Canada as a counsellor in the Aggressive Behavioural Control Unit and the Sexual Offender Unit, for PAR Consultants (an Employee Assistance Plan provider) as a consultant and therapist, and with the BC Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse as a therapist since 2007.

Steven was a clinical faculty member with Royal University Hospital at the University of Saskatchewan, taught psychology at the University of Phoenix, and currently teaches graduate courses at Adler University in Vancouver. In his spare time (LOL), Steven is an editor of the Marriage & Commitment section for the Good Men Project whose purpose is to redefine the concept of “masculinity.”

Steven believes that when working with people, it is important to open himself up to who they are and the reality of their lived experience, establish trust, and identify what the client wants to accomplish.   Furthermore, whether working on career, relationships or intra-psychic disturbances like anxiety and depression, Steven believes that there is an opportunity for personal growth that comes from listening to and tapping into your inner wisdom.

Steven has his national counselling certification (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (# 6183).
